Good Samaritan
Bay City Intermediate student Jonathan R. demonstrated true character and kindness when he helped out an elderly lady in need on Nov. 20. Jonathan was riding his bike to school when he saw a senior citizen struggling to get her garbage can to the street for pickup. Jonathan got off his bike to help, but before he could reach the elderly lady, she had fallen. Jonathan struggled to help her up, and then assisted her to her patio. When Jonathan got to school, he was still worrying about this lady, so he and Assistant Principal Harold Parnell went to check on her well-being. Jonathan said, "I was freaking out and shaking. I kept thinking to myself 'what if I hadn't come along?' She'd still be lying there." We're so glad Jonathan that you did stop! Jonathan is pictured above holding the BCIS school mascot, Paws.

BCISD helps the hungry
BC Intermediate has selected teams and the food
drive is in full swing! Fourth and fifth grades are competing
to see which class can collect the most food items to help those in
need over the holidays. BCIS has even developed a collecting suggestion list: Macaroni-Monday,
Two-can-Tuesday, Soupy-Wednesday, Boxy-Thursday, and Fruity-Friday
(canned fruit!). Of
course any non-perishable items will be accepted.
Pictured above are BCIS students kicking off their collection effort -- photo by Sharon Landgrebe.
Other campuses conducting food drives are Cherry Elementary, Holmes Elementary, Roberts Elementary, BCJH and McAllister Intermediate.

Sculpture commissioned for BCHS
Fundraising is underway for a Blackcat sculpture to be placed at BCHS. The sculpture is a composite of a panther, cougar, and cat, and is a pose of a cat stalking its prey. The sculpture will be approximately eight feet long. Pictured above is a small wax rendering of the sculpture, which is being designed and created by BCHS art instructor Mico Murphy. A donation of $500 gets your name added to the plaque that will accompany the sculpture, which is being funded by private donation. The sculpture is expected to be completed by fall of 2010. Former graduating classes of BCHS: this is the perfect opportunity for your class to make a lasting contribution to your alma mater!
Donations may be mailed to or dropped off at the BCISD Public Information Office: BCISD Public Information c/o Blackcat Sculpture Fund 2400 4th St. -- Pierce Campus Bay City, TX 77414 Contact Allison Sliva for more information at 979-245-1604 or email asliva@bcblackcats.net
