Dear Parents, The goal of the BCISD Child Nutrition/Food Service Department is to provide a high quality, nutritionally balanced breakfast and lunch to all students in school. When children are hungry, they are lethargic, irritable and have a shorter attention span, which makes learning difficult. Many students would get no meal, or at best a nutritionally poor one, if they had to bring their own lunches. A good lunch is not only essential to academic achievement, it is also an integral part of the educational process. A degreed nutritionist plans all menus.

"What exactly is a good school lunch?" An USDA-approved school lunch provides one third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) of all four basic food groups. Bay City ISD food services tries to plan good tasting, healthy meals for each age group, that offer the required balance and quantity of meats, breads, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, while reducing salt, fats and sugars, and increasing fiber. Bay City ISD is proud to exceed the expectations of The National School Lunch Program. Parents are encouraged to dine with their child(ren). They should call the school the morning they intend to eat in a cafeteria, or send a note to their child's teacher (that morning). Visitors pay for their lunches when they receive their trays (See price listing below). Children are always excited to have their parents/grandparents eat with them.

Eligibility for Free or Reduced Price Breakfast and Lunch: Every student at BCISD will receive an application for free and reduced price meals the first day of school. Parents who meet the income guidelines, or get food stamps or TANF stipends for their children, can complete the application and return it to the cafeteria manager at their child's school, or to the Food Service Office, 2317 3rd Street. Applications are available throughout the year at all schools and the BCISD Child Nutrition Office, 2317 3rd Street. Only one application per family is required regardless of the number of children attending school, and regardless of which school they attend. However, ALL children must be listed on the one application form.

Parents receiving a Notification of Predetermined Eligibility from the school district should note that the children listed will automatically receive free meals beginning the first day of school. If there are other children living in the same household, whose name(s) do not appear on the notification letter, these parents should call the Food Service Office immediately at (979) 245-0677. No other application is required.
